Bethels Beach surf lifesaving tower

Sea-Change

Sea change or sea-change is an English idiomatic expression that denotes a substantial change in perspective, especially one that affects a group or society at large, on a particular issue. It is similar in usage and meaning to a paradigm shift, and may be viewed as a change to a society or community's zeitgeist, with regard to a specific issue. The phrase evolved from an older and more literal usage when the term referred to an actual "change wrought by the sea",[1] a definition now remaining in very limited usage *

In this work there are two light sources that direct you through the work. The first is the sunlight striking the far horizon upon the surface of the water and cutting the image composition between sea and sky. - this bright light is our future, perhaps better days are ahead if we can negotiate our current times.  The second light source is the reflected light upon the chest of the nesting albatross. This creates a warm light between the pair signifying closeness. The Northern Royal Albatross usually mate for life and these two represent  family and community.

The Bethells Beach Surf Lifesaving Patrol station has been encompassed by the sea and has become an island in the ocean. Without its pair, the sole tattered safety flag, flapping in the breeze signifies danger, an unassured security, as there is no other visible flag to coordinate with (referencing the safe to swim between the flags campaign on beaches).

The graffiti are signs of out current epoch: The 6th extinction seems to be upon our wildlife. 2001 a Space Odyssey is a film about a computer(AI) taking over. 2+2=5 is a quote from 1984 about psychological manipulation. Fahrenheit 451 is about book burning (the control of knowledge).
