studio works
These artworks grew from the Master of Fine Arts degree coursework, many of which form a linear chronicle towards the 'My Eden Life' (2011) final exhibition. The paintings in the oxymoron series derive from photographs found on the Internet by submitting an oxymoron (a combination of opposite meaning words) into the Google Image search engine and sifting through the results until I found an image that best represents the ambiguity of the oxymoron title. All of these paintings began as downloaded images that were found on personal websites. The image was then recontextualized by hand painting them with oil paints, paying close attention to (and expanding upon) the photographic attributes of the source image. The best way to view these works is to see them as physical objects (without the confusion of remediation). By displaying them here in this online gallery, as digital images of paintings, they are again mediated back into the immaterial digital realm.
