hunters & consumers -2007
This exhibition regards the journey of food from the living animal to our plate. as consumers, we tend not to think beyond the expertly divided and generic packages of produce that are neatly displayed in the local supermarket. On the farm the stock are treated like Hansel and Gretel; the farmer feeding the captives, giving care and attention to a good healthy balance between muscle and fat, until the animal is ready for the dinner plate.
The three paintings of the housewife holding an animal were designed as a triptych with a working title of Desperate Housewives. Each animal about to be prepared for the dinner plate. The triptych of the paintings the 'trophy hunter', 'guide' and 'pighunter' also had a working title; Procession. The respect paid by following the wild pig out of the forest takes the form of a short grace before the meal.
